From invisible to empowered: How storytelling changed my life

MY STORY

For most of my life, I moved through the world feeling invisible.

I was insecure in my own voice and stuck in a loop of thinking that life was happening to me, not for me.

Yet… I had always suspected that there was something more within me, just waiting to be expressed. For a long time, fear kept it buried.

A new city, a new beginning-ish

In 2017, I moved to Montreal. I didn’t know anyone. Months passed where loneliness wrapped itself around me like a heavy coat.

One night, desperate to feel anything other than isolation, I pushed myself to attend a true-life storytelling event. It was hosted by Confabulation, Montreal’s biggest, storytelling event series.

I arrived at the event alone, took a seat, not knowing what to expect. But what happened next changed everything.

The moment that everything changed

I watched strangers step onto the stage and share their stories—raw, vulnerable, triumphant. And for the first time in months, I felt alive.

After the show, I mustered the courage to approach the organizer and asked if there was any way at all, I could volunteer with the show. He said yes, but with one condition: I had to tell a story first.

The thought of speaking in front of a crowd should have paralyzed me.

Up until that point, I couldn't even speak in front of five people without a racing heart and shaking hands. But something bigger than fear answered for me: yes.

Driven by a longing for connection, I wrote my first story. A month later, I stood on that same stage and performed. To my shock, I didn’t just survive it—I loved it.

Reclaiming my own narrative

That night cracked something open in me.

It wasn’t just about public speaking. It was about reclaiming my own narrative.  About seeing myself not as a some passive, helpless character, but as the protagonist, someone with agency, choice, and power.

Storytelling taught me three lessons that changed not only the course of my career, but the way I move through life. These are:

  1. How to speak in a way that moves people

  2. How to see myself as the creator of my own life

  3. How to influence hearts and minds; not by force, but by sharing who I truly am

Opportunities I Never Expected

Since then, storytelling has opened doors I never could have imagined.

  • It helped me land an incredible role at one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world, even without the “perfect” resume.

  • It landed me a coveted spot at a global leadership commit, beating out 500+ applicants.

  • It led me to speaking on panels, collaborating with brilliant minds, from executives to artists, across industries and building a life that once felt out of reach.

More than that, it gave me the gift of connecting with others authentically, and living from a place of courage rather than fear.

Your story is your power.

Today, I help others tap into that same power.

My experience has shown me that learning storytelling skills unlocks more than just great communication. It can help you close the gap between where you are and where you want to be.

If you’re ready to start owning your narrative, and start opening doors you never thought possible, send me a message.

I can’t wait to meet you.
